DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP:  A light trade took place last week, mostly on 
Thursday with a little cleanup on Friday. Southern live deals were 
marked at $180 to mostly $181, $2 lower than the prior week's 
weighted averages. Northern dressed business had a range of $286 to 
$289, mostly $288, $2 lower than the previous week's weighted 
average basis Nebraska, many of those Nebraska cattle sales were set 
for delayed delivery (the weeks of 9/16/24 to 9/30/24). According to 
Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary 
reports, weekly accumulated totals were as follows, (the prior 
week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses). KS 
$180.97($182.67); NE $287.59 ($290.22); TX $181.00($182.98); IA 
$287.22($290.76); CO not available due to confidentiality. 

The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists 
week-to-date trade volume totals as: KS 8,556; NE 15,750; TX 4,232, 
IA 17,113; CO NA due to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 
123,000 head, 3,000 more than the prior week, but 2,000 less than a 
year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 43,000 head, bringing the 
weekly total to 542,000 head, 69,000 below the previous week, and 
17,000 under 2023. The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and 
boxed beef cuts: choice $310.80(+0.17), select $298.10(+0.08), with 
an average choice select spread of $12.70(+0.08), and a total load 
count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 544(-130), (Changes 
from the prior week are listed in parentheses). 

For the week ending August 31, 2024, Imported Beef Passed for Entry 
in the U.S. totaled 50,916, 101.30% of the previous week and 97.02% 
of the 4-week average. 

DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It looks to be a very typical Monday, as both 
packers and producers are busy taking inventory. Bids and asking 
prices are not established and significant trade volume will likely 
be delayed until the second half of the week. Beef cutouts are 
expected to be lower with generally light box movement.
